This year for Christmas I decided to make quilted stocking for our families. We don't really do a gift exchange with all of the siblings anymore, but if I have the time, I like to sew something for everyone. I was inspired by
these amazing quilted stockings. I chose to use printed fabrics rather than solids, and no cuff. For the guys, I made a bound edge along the top of the stocking, and for the girls I added a ruffle!
This post is going to be quite picture-heavy, so let's get to it!
These are for my family: Matt, Addy and Nikki
For my sister and BIL: Nick and Stacey
For my stepbrother's family: Rob, Jenn, and Oliver
For my parents and brother: Bev, Bob and Robbie
For my BILs: Mark and Jeff
For my in laws: Marla and Ray
These were really fun to quilt! I wish the close up pictures of the red batik stocking had come out, because I quilted feathers on those. Unfortunately I can never seem to photograph red very well!
I also sent my sister these hand knit wrist warmers (pattern is from Issue #21 of
Mollie Makes, yarn is Madeline Tosh in pomegranate, I think!). The owl was her sorority mascot, so much to my brother in law's dismay, she collects all things owl!
For Addy's Faith Formation teachers I made table toppers:
For Addy's school teacher I made an apron. This may sound a bit clique at first, but her teacher actually wears an apron all day. She keeps little treats in it, and she gives them out to the students throughout the day. Maybe she will prefer her usual apron, but in case she'd like something new, here's what I made:
And lastly, I had a few spare moments before Christmas to sew for Addy! I found this pattern (Simplicity 1581) a few weeks before Christmas and I just knew I had to sew up these doll dresses for Addy's dolls. They are the Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel, Tinker Belle, Princess Aurora, and Belle dresses for an 18" doll! I sewed all but the Belle dress in kona cotton, because I have lots of colors on hand, and it's easy to toss in the wash! The swags on the Belle dress required fabric with better drape.
To go with the dresses, I made a tote bag from the book,
All Dolled Up:
I couldn't help but use this super hero (Super Kids fabric line, by Ann Kelle) print for the bag lining!
I hope you all had a fabulous holiday season! Here's to a great 2014, when I hope to share a bit more on my blog!
